Preparing your catalogue file

A perfect-bound catalogue has a real spine. Preparing it differs slightly from a saddle-stitched brochure, especially for the cover.

Inner pages

Inner pages come in an even number, supplied in reading order as a multi-page PDF, with the same size and orientation throughout.

The cover and the spine

The cover is usually supplied separately because it wraps around the spine. Spine width depends on page count and paper weight: allow for it in the cover layout, and don’t place any critical element there until the width is confirmed.

Binding margins

The glue “eats” a few millimetres near the spine. Keep text away from the binding area, and avoid double-page spreads where an essential element would land right on the spine.

Check before you send

Frequently asked questions
How do I work out the spine width?
It’s calculated from the page count and the paper weight. Tell us both and we’ll confirm the spine width to allow for.
