File size and cutting tolerances

The data size is the finished size plus the bleed. Working at the right dimensions from the start avoids distortion and quality loss.

Finished size vs data size

The finished size is the dimension of the printed product you receive. The data size adds the bleed all the way around. Create your document at the data size, at 1:1 scale, with no scaling on export.

Normal tolerances

Industrial cutting allows slight variations (in the order of a millimetre), plus a tiny front-to-back offset. Absorbing those variations is exactly what bleed and the safety zone are for — so never place a critical element right at the edge.

Check before you send

  • Document at finished size + bleed
  • 1:1 scale, no scaling on export
  • Critical elements clear of the cutting zones
