Naming your print file

A clear file name avoids a lot of confusion — especially when several designs or several pages are involved.

Simple rules

Keep the name short, with no accents, spaces or special characters (replace spaces with hyphens). End with the correct extension (.pdf). Avoid generic names like “untitled” or “final-final-2”.

Double-sided and multi-page files

If you supply a double-sided job as two files, label the front and the back clearly. For a bound document, a single multi-page PDF with the pages in reading order is the best option.

Check before you send

  • Short name, no accents or special characters
  • Spaces replaced with hyphens
  • Correct extension (.pdf)
  • Front/back or pages clearly identified
Frequently asked questions
Do I need one file per page?
For bound documents, a single multi-page PDF in reading order is better than lots of separate files.
